Not only does it protect clothing from water splashes while sharpening knives, but it also removes burrs after sharpening. Made primarily from Okayama Prefecture's specialty denim fabric in Kamaasa Shoten's signature black color, this is an apron designed for knife sharpeners.

Built to withstand knife sharpening

The final step in knife sharpening involves removing burrs from the blade edge using newspaper or thick denim—a process called "burr removal.
" Inspired by the idea of using denim for this burr removal, we added a separate denim panel to the right thigh area of the apron.
This not only protects against splashes and stains while sharpening but also allows for efficient burr removal during the finishing process.

While kappogi aprons were originally developed in the late Meiji to early Taisho period to protect kimono during housework and may carry a somewhat traditional image, KAMA-ASA’s kappogi is designed with a simple, easy-to-move silhouette. It is comfortable to wear in a wide range of settings, from modern restaurant kitchens to everyday home cooking.

A kappogi that can be worn in two ways

This design can be worn as a round-neck pullover, or as a light outer layer by turning the button side to the front.
It can be worn in two ways regardless of gender or setting.

Pocket as elbow reinforcement

Inspired by feedback from yakitori chefs who noted that their elbows rub against the sides while skewering or grilling, causing wear, we designed deep pockets that also function as elbow reinforcement.
This helps prevent damage while adding a subtle design accent.

Thoughtful details

Snap buttons are intentionally designed with a slightly loose fit for easy wear and removal.
The buttons are made of metal but covered with fabric to prevent damage to surrounding surfaces.
Roll-up buttons at the cuffs and quick-drying T/C poplin fabric (65% polyester, 35% cotton) provide both functionality and comfort.
Every detail is carefully designed for ease of use.

We have adopted a highly durable denim fabric with an emphasis on durability, with the idea that the more you use it, the more it will fit you and the more you will feel attached to it.
By using black denim, we have created a coloring that will become a symbol of the Kamasa Shoten brand.
Black denim does not stain easily, and the more you use it, the more it develops its own texture.
It comes with a loop so you can hang it up for storage.

Higher heat resistance

Kevlar®, a para-aramid fiber with high strength, high elastic modulus, abrasion resistance, cut resistance, heat resistance, etc., which is widely used in fields requiring high protective performance, such as bulletproof vests, stab-proof gloves, helmets, and firefighting uniforms, is used for the parts that come in contact with tools, and has a thermal decomposition start temperature of approximately 400°C (*1). (*2).
The core fabric is made by bonding Bemberg®, which has high moisture absorption and desorption properties, with cotton knit. In addition to improving the insulation effect and maintaining operability without becoming too thick, it also improves fabric strength by preventing fraying.

*1 This is the temperature at which the material begins to decompose due to heat; please note that it does not mean that you can work with your hands at temperatures up to 400℃.

3-finger type for easy grasping

Compared to the two-finger type, the three-finger type makes it easier to perform detailed work.
The structure fits the movement of the hand and is easy to grasp and hold, enabling safe holding of pans, woks, and other handles.

Glove-shaped for safe use in oven cooking

The glove's shape hides up to the wrist, providing broad protection for the hand.
The gloves can be used safely for oven cooking that requires the hand to go deep into the oven.

Can be used for both right and left hand

It is designed to fit the hand of any dominant hand, right or left.
Since it is easier to put on and take off than the 5-finger type, it can be used immediately when you are in a hurry during cooking.
Two hands are safer to use for oven cooking such as two-handed pots and oven dishes.

Internal sewing finish that prevents lint from being produced

All fabrics are internally sewn so that the cut surfaces and seams do not come into direct contact with the hands, preventing thread scraps from getting into the food.
